Just Like You: A Poem

JUST LIKE YOU
by Hillary Thornock, RN
Sit beside me I beg you
The voices I hear can’t harm you
Smile for me I beg you
My eyes are glazed but still see you
Cry with me I beg you
My tears are no different than yours
I once was a child with dreams and hopes Just like you; just like you
I once had friends and family that loved me Just like you; just like you
I once embraced this world we all share Just like you; just like you
Listen to me I beg you
Hear my story that may inspire you
Walk beside me I beg you
My feet walk a path that may enlighten you
Sit and just be with me I beg you
My silence just might awaken you
I once was a child with hopes and dreams Just like you; just like you
I once had friends and family that loved me Just like you; just like you
I once embraced this world we all share Just like you; just like you
She sat beside me and smiled
She offered me time and understanding
He saw the tears in my eyes
He offered me silence and a hug
They walked beside my side
They offered me companionship
I am learning and have hopes and dreams
Just like you; just like you
I am a brother and son that has love and goodness Just like you; just like you
I embrace humanity in this world that we all share Just like you; just like you
